Basement Bathroom The basement bathroom has gone through a few phases. The most interesting thing to note is that I didn't plan on having it end up where it did. I was looking for it to be where all my ducting ended up. Guess that is what happens when you leave your HVAC guys alone for 6 hours. Yea, they sucked, but that is a different discussion.

Phase I : Layout

I was trying to find the best layout for the space. The bathroom is pretty big (10x10) when you think of basement bathrooms. The most important thing that I wanted out of the it was NO STUPID PLASTIC SHOWER STALL. They are ugly and gross. Plus they just screem to me that you didn't spend any forethought or money in the bathroom. Building the shower stall was alot of fun and I would recommend it. Challenging, but fun. I ended up picking out all of the same style of fixtures and faucet collection from Home Depot. Though, there were online retailers that had better prices - so my advice is to decide what you want and then google the model number.
2008-05-08 - I ordered the main fixtures for the bathroom from Home Center (online, only 300.00 for freight charges!) and picked up the vainity and vanity top from Building Materials Outlet.
Phase II : Plumbing

Well, this stage of the game yielded me a rather severe injury to my leg and hand. The lesson learned is that there is a right tool for every job. I was trying to cut though the cast iron pipe with an angle grinder and should have just rented the snap cutter (which I did). The snap cutter is easy to use (and cheap ~$20.00). I ended up also learning one important plumbing lesson. That vent lines are supposed to come strait up (or at a 45 degree angle) from the pipe. I came up at a 90 degree and then over to the wall. The best thing to do is just have the vent pipe in the wall and hug the outer wall with the waste pipe. That was about a week and a $100.00 lesson. Special thanks go to Bob Wolf at the city inspections department. He was very helpful in educating me. I would also invest in the pad for soldering the pipes. It is super helpful so you don't char the wood floor joists.
