Feeling a sense of completion
Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 10:43 AM
The basement is progressing nicely. I have only 4 more walls to complete. They're pretty easy ones considering the other ones that I had to do. So the count is pretty much 16 down and 4 to go. It's pretty cool to walk down in the basement and see what will be the walls. The wiring is to follow this weekend.

Minneapolis Police Officers Have Another Strike Against Them
Monday, September 3, 2007, 09:18 AM
This last weekend I was out on a Sunday night. It was labor day on Monday so I decided that it would be fun to get some folks together and go lawn bowling at
Brit's Pub. Afterwards we decided to head downtown for some dancing and general booty shaking. You know a good time. Since I was the designated driver, and hadn't really had that much to drink, I drove. We parked in the parking lot that could be considered adjacent to Glick's. We started out at the lone tree but it was lame and boring. So we decided to head to Drink. After many rump shakes there I tried to gather up my friends to head out. Outside the Drink is the end of the downtown Minneapolis end of the
Light Rail. I was sitting down elevated platform with my legs dangling off next to one of the people that I was out with. Behind us were 4 minneapolis police officers. My friend ended up saying something to me, but I wasn't really paying attention because I was looking for the rest of my friends to come out. Well, where this story all starts is here in the next few seconds. One of the cops decided that he didn't like what my friend was talking about. He stood up from where he was reclining and came over saying "I heard what you where saying!", "Get up and start walking". When she turned around to see what was going on he practically yelled "Yea, I'm talking to you". I turned to see what was going on and say him standing about 1 foot from her. He again reiterated "Get up and start walking or you'll be in big trouble". He then KICKED HER PURSE ONTO THE GROUND! I was shocked and was thinking about helping her get her things together as he was very menacing in his language and demeanor. She ended up bending down and picking her things up while he stood there glaring at her and me! I was worried about getting involved and also told to "move on", so I stayed out of it. She walked over to the intersection and stood there as if waiting for the light and the officer stood there glaring the whole time. My first thought was "is this how minneapolis police are supposed to act - I don't think so". Just then, my other friends came out and I was said "let's go". I just wanted to get out of downtown minneapolis as fast as I could. We started walking past them again and I thought that it would be good to get his badge number. Let me just state that this was a bad move I guess. So, I walked back to them and was looking at the officers chest for the badge number and I stated "What is your badge number?" He immediatedly jumped up and grabbed my arms and pushed me backward yelling "You'd better get out of here!" I couldn't believe that my statement would garner this type of response. I was totally taken aback! He was so intimidating that I turned around and started heading back to my friends. They were standing over in the middle of the intersection waiting for me. Incidentally they were next to the mounted patrol. More police officers on horseback. One of the officers said to me "you'd better get out of here of I'm going to run you over with this horse!" I'm sure that the total look of surprise on my face was an interesting to the officer. He stated "I say you raise your hand to that officer over there - you'd better get out of here". I again thought "raised my hand?!? oh you mean pointed to his badge?" Which incicentally was something like was badge number 2680 or 2860. He was about 5' 9" and about 175 pounds with short blondish hair. Oh, and did I mention he had a really crappy attitude! We made a beeline for my car and headed out of downtown. I'm not sure when I'm going heading downtown in the near future.
UPDATE (2007-07-04): I called today to try to see my Minneapolis City Council person (
Sandy Colvin Roy and left a message - she hasn't responded yet - going to try again.
UPDATE (2007-07-07): Called again and talked with her assistant Dawn Snow and she said that Sandy's calendar was booked but she would get back to me soon after she left a message for her (Sandy was out of town I guess) and figured out some time for me to see her.

Awesome, total site redesign. The layout here is so much better and, did you notice - new domain name. Yup, this is the unveiling of
travisbeste.com. The idea behind this is the ability to move my personal content off of my professional website and somewhere where it's a bit more ... well personal. So welcome, and here we go!

Could it be getting easier - no... Sorry to say, that it still pretty difficult to complete the distance. I was so tired yesterday that I even took a nap for an hour. That didn't really help all that much. I was still had to walk the second half. But one thing that I did notice is that I had a little more energy when I did the turn-around. I ran just a little bit further that I did the last couple of days. The only weird thing is that I continue to be a tired, but not sore. I guess that's what happens when you stretch. Keeping those legs limber, keeps injury away. Well that's what I've always thought. Today looks like another late night run. I have a lot of plans today, but maybe sometime around 8:00 pm. Oh well, sometimes you have to adjust your running schedule so that you can keep your schedule.

Okay, I tell you. Everything is just a little harder when you try to go running at 9:00 at night. I ended up getting home from dinner with the pops around 7:45ish. Then some time on the phone working those social connections. Then, it took some time to get all of my running apparel together, then off on my run. Turns out that it's much harder the second day. I kept on having to mentally move myself along. And at the midpoint mark I had to walk for about .5 miles. Then, only able to move my mass another 1.75 miles afterwards. The only good thing is that I know its going to get better as the weeks progress - 28 days to go. 255.6

So, I was able to finish my run yesterday. Ran for 2.64 miles, walked for .5 miles and ran for 1.86. I stretched alot last night so I guess I can say that it's the reason that I'm not all that sore. I am tired though. Even with 9 hours of sleep, I feel like I could use a few more. The upside is, that after a few days of running, I get to the point where I'm sleeping 'harder', so it seems to compress the amount of sleep that I need. I did have some really weird dreams about Wahalla, ND. I am certainly not going to articulate them here...I guess weird dreams are meant to remain in your head. Tonight I am going out to dinner with my father, so I'm going to have to run late as I couldn't get up this morning to run. Might be late into work tomorrow, hope not!
